At the James Paget Hospital, 'continuity of carer' is being introduced.
What is Continuity of Carer?
Continuity of Carer is a nationally recommended model that means you will have a named midwife, in a small team of midwives, who will work together to provide all of your care during your pregnancy, birth and after your baby is born. This means you are much more likely to have the same midwife throughout, who you get to know and have a trusting relationship with.
Why are James Paget Introducing this?
Not only is Continuity of Carer nationally recommended as set out in the Better Births National Maternity Review, it is also the most requested wish from women and their families in our area when asked "what could be done better?"
Evidence from a number of studies tells us that providing your care this way is better for you and your baby:

When will Continuity of Carer be introduced?
This model will be rolled out over the year, so that by the end of the year, all women and birthing people will be offered Continuity of Carer at the James Paget Hospital. From the 1st February 2021, 3 teams will begin to work in this way and they will have contacted you if you will be cared for by them.

Want to speak to someone about your care?
Conversations about your care should take place at each appointment with your midwife. If you have questions, your midwife is best placed to answer them and you can contact them on the information they provided you.
If you feel like you are not being listened to, having your choices respected, or there are aspects of you care that aren't being personalised in the way that you wish, our advice is to speak to your midwife in the first instance to try and resolve this, however, we can support you further if needed. Get in touch, we're here to listen.
